“Life consists not in holding good cards but in playing those you hold well” – Josh Billings
Why therapy?
If you find something is getting in the way of your enjoyment of life – or stopping you from moving on – then therapy is a good solution. Therapy can help solve long-term or complex difficulties such as depression or eating disorders, as well as short-term hurdles such as phobias and lack of confidence.
It is a very valuable tool for positive, personal development, too – for example, improving your motivation, developing professionally, or mastering a sport or creative activity.
People often ask ‘How long will it take to sort this out?’ This is rather like the old cliché ‘How long is a piece of string?’ There are many factors – including your commitment to therapy, how often you see me, and how many ‘layers’ or perspectives there are to the problem. To give you a guide, some of the more straightforward cases can be resolved in JUST ONE SESSION. At the other end of the scale, long-term, complex, on-going and embedded problems are likely to take 20-30 sessions or more. About SIX sessions is a fair estimate for most cases to see good improvements.
Types of Therapy Offered
All of the therapies that I offer are designed to help you resolve whatever brings you to see me. Most of these therapies are ‘brief’ therapies – taking weeks or months, rather than years.
I include a balance of mainstream therapies and alternative ones, and solution-focused and 'root cause' approaches. This combination of finding where the problem started AND how NOT to have it - finding both cause AND solution - creates a very solid protocol, or belt-and-braces approach.
There are many different types of therapy which use different perspectives and models. All have their role to play. I use a variety of proven techniques and approaches – ones that I know work and produce good results.
